Many alumni return to visit Carr's Hill during Reunions weekends. Alumni enjoy meeting the current President, reminiscing about old times, telling stories, meeting old classmates, and making new friends from other classes during receptions under the tent at Carr's Hill.
The President hosts an annual Holiday Open House at Carr's Hill for the University community. Students, staff, and faculty are invited to come enjoy gingerbread cookies, holiday treats, hot cocoa, and songs around the piano in the living room. Guests marvel at the magnificent gingerbread house, which is made and donated by the Virginia Catering Company each year, and spends several weeks at Carr's Hill before being moved to the UVA Hospital for the enjoyment of patients and their families throughout the holiday season.

Each year, new students arrive on Grounds ready to begin their studies. Following Opening Convocation and the Honor Induction, during which new students sign the Honor Pledge on the Lawn, students are invited to Carr's Hill to meet the President and enjoy ice cream on the terrace and lawn.
One day each year, during Virginia's Garden Week, Carr's Hill is open to the general public free of charge. Guests can tour the home and gardens, learn more about the history of the house and its residents, and enjoy the home's art and architecture. Guests travel from near and far to see Carr's Hill, and there are always a handful of alumni and local community members who stop by, as well.
